The budget subcommittee hearing process continues this week, with a hearing today at 1:30 PM by the Assembly Budget Subcommittee #1 on Health and Human Services, at the State Capitol in Room 444, focusing on the budget items under the Department of Social Services dealing with automation related issues that impact people with disabilities, mental health needs and seniors and low income families, and budget items related to the State’s food stamp program, officially known as “CalFresh”.
Meanwhile the State budget process inches forward with an important hearing focusing on the Governor’s proposals impacting the Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP), the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program, the Department of Rehabilitation and CalWORKS program, Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment (SSI/SSP), CalFresh (State food stamp program)
The legislature will soon be taking action on the Governor's proposed cuts to close a $12.5 billion budget deficit. There are drastic proposed cuts to many programs including IHSS, CalWORKS, SSI/SSP, MSSP, regional centers, Medi-Cal, and many, many more. Decisions are made by those who "show up" and, more importantly, made by others when people don't.
