The mission of the Assembly Select Committee on Disabilities is to ensure the rights and dignity of all people with disabilities. The Committee shall strive to advocate on behalf of people with disabilities by conducting informational hearings, researching current topics and serving as a resource for the Assembly and others.

Vision Statement

The Assembly Select Committee on Disabilities will:

  1. Promote public awareness about the needs and abilities of people with disabilities, a community comprised of individuals affected by blindness and visual impairment, hearing impairment, developmental disabilities, mental illness, physical disabilities and alcohol and drug addictions;
  2. Recognize that people with disabilities have made profound contributions to California at all levels of society;
  3. Listen to the opinions of people with disabilities, as well as the opinions of those who assist them;
  4. Collect, disseminate and integrate information about people with disabilities for purposes of education for California legislators, policy makers and staff.
  5. Strive to shatter the stigma associated with having a disability, instead working to celebrate our differences within an inclusive society;
  6. Work to encourage the deinstitutionalization of people with disabilities and full community integration; and
  7. Improve employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
