The 1st District stretches along the eastern edge of the state, from the Oregon border to the Mojave Desert. It includes most of the Mother Lode and Sierra Nevada Regions in addition to Lake Tahoe. However, because most of the district is rural, two-thirds of the district's population in 2000 lived in suburban Sacramento.

The 4th District covers a vast and predominantly rural region that includes 12 counties – Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Nevada (partly), Placer (partly), Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehema, Trinity and Yuba Counties.
Curren Price was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2006 to represent the 51st District, and was re-elected by an overwhelming margin to a second term in 2008. After serving one full term in the California State Assembly, Mr. Price was elected in May 2009 to represent the 26th District in the State Senate, which includes a portion of Los Angeles, Culver City, Beverlywood, Hollywood, Koreatown, Ladera Heights, Larchmont, Leimert Park, View Park, and Vermont Hills.
The district stretches along most of California's northern coast, including the entirety of Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, and Napa Counties, as well as parts of Solano and Sonoma Counties.
