Jean Fuller

Jean Fuller (R-Bakersfield) was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2006 to represent the 32nd Assembly District, which includes Bakersfield, Ridgecrest, Tehachapi, Taft, Kern River Valley, and the Frazier Mountain communities.

Fuller is a member of Assembly Republican Leader Sam Blakeslee's leadership team and serves as Leader of the Water Policy Team. In her leadership role, Fuller will focus on solutions to California's current water crisis that will ensure the state has a sufficient water supply to meet the needs of families, farmers and businesses. The team will be crafting comprehensive legislation to increase above-ground water storage, expand conveyance, and improve conservation efforts across the state.

Fuller is a member of the Rural Caucus, a bipartisan group of 43 Assembly Members and Senators who provide a strong, united voice in the state legislature for residents of rural communities, and served as Chair of the caucus during her first term in office.

Fuller also serves as Vice-Chair of the Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee and is a member of the State Allocation Board, the Assembly Agriculture Committee, the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee, and the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance. Her top legislative priorities are to expand career technical education programs for high school students, to improve California's business climate, and to reduce the tax burden on hard-working families.

Fuller has been recognized statewide for her accomplishments in the State Legislature. She received the California Women's Leadership Association Marian Bergeson Trailblazer Award in 2007, the James S. Gilstrap Award for exemplary public service and civic contributions to Kern County by the Independent Oil Producer's Agency and the 2009 Friends of California Community Colleges award.

Prior to her election to the Assembly, Fuller served as Superintendent of the Bakersfield City School District and, earlier, as Superintendent and Principal of the Keppel Union School District in Pearblossom. Fuller was named California Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators for the 2004-05 school year. Fuller, who was an educator in California for over thirty years, also owns a family farm, manages property, and was in the restaurant business.

Fuller's professional and community leadership positions in the 32nd District have included the Kern County Adult Literacy Council, the Boy's and Girl's Club Board, and the Kern County Superintendent's Administrative Advisory Board. Statewide leadership roles have included the California School Boards Association, the Association of School Administrators, and the Institute for Education Reform.

Fuller was born and raised in Kern County. She attended local schools and completed her Bachelor, Masters, and PhD degrees through the California State University and the University of California systems. Fuller supplemented her educational training at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, the University of Southern California, and Exeter College in Oxford, England.

Jean and her husband, Russell, live in Bakersfield.
