The creators of this site have been in talks with CDCAN (www.cdcan.us) to update its website to allow for newer technologies to help spread information. This site is designed to facilitate the spread of information faster through the use of dynamic page generation technologies, database backends and an easy-to-use editor for page layout and format.
The creators/maintainers of this website (cdcan.info - as of 01/19/2010) have been in prior talks with cdcan.us to update the website, but many mitigating factors have prevented the project from moving forward. The project has been slowly progressing over the last few months, but at a snail's pace. This is not the fault of either Marty Omoto's CDCAN nor this site as many factors become an issue (such as traveling and coordinating meeting times in a never-ending conflicting schedule on either party's side.) We will try to keep the community updated as things progress.
Note: Please also realize we are not as knowledgable with the processes dictated by Marty, so please forgive us if we err. We are also realizing as time goes on there are many more pieces to the process than originally anticipated, so information is constantly being added and updated as it becomes available. Soon, Marty will be adding and updating virtually all content so he may ensure its integrity. As of now, the reassurance of complete integrity is not possible because of our inexperience with the process as a whole. Our apologies.
It is the intent of this site to slowly migrate information from cdcan.us into cdcan.info while adding new information as it becomes available. (NOTE: This means we are building cdcan.info to be the ideal cdcan.us and our hopes are eventually this site will become cdcan.us). It is the intent of this site to allow for others to syndicate the information or add opinion on their own sites through the use of technologies such as RSS. It is also through the use of a new website that all of the information contained within the website can be published and controlled by CDCAN without having the burden necessarily fall to one man.
That said, we offer our apologies to anyone who may have been confused about the intent of this website or its purpose.
We have a number of projects to create interactivity with this site (and, hopefully down the road, www.cdcan.us) for the users and regular readers. Future projects include setting up a gallery allowing people to upload pictures of local events, to installing a multi-user blogging platform to allow both a community to let its collective voice be heard as well as individuals' triumphs and failures, creating a "Yahoo! Groups" like feature allowing local advocacy, creating legislative voting records (imported), creating a calendar with upcoming issues featured, etc. We are also looking to allow podcasts directly from this site to allow local advocacy groups to interview persons within their community including regional center directors, assembly members/senators, etc.
The idea behind a multi-user blogging platform is to gather advocates from all around the state contributing information about events, but also simply having their voice heard. Many times those with disabilities (and even those without) need to "put their thoughts on paper" (so to speak), much like a diary, in order to relieve a bit of stress. It is human nature and so relevant to the diary analogy.
California Disability Community Action Network reports and alerts go out to over 50,000 people with disabilities, mental health needs, seniors, veterans with disabilities & mental health needs, their families, workers, community organizations, including those in Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino, African American communities, policy makers and others across California.
