Bills to be heard that could have some impact on people with disabilities, mental health needs, seniors, or low income workers and families:

  • AB 1673 (Mendoza) – Adult Education: Would require the Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO) to,  subject to an appropriation in the State Budget or another State law, provide a report to the Legislature by January 1, 2012  on specified issues related to adult education programs
  • AB 1841 (Buchanan) – Special Education: Parental Consent:  Would make changes to existing State special education laws to conform them to federal regulations governing Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).
  • AB 1933 (Brownley) – Foster Children: Education: Would require a local educational agency (LEA) to allow a child in foster care to remain in his or her school of origin for the duration of the court's jurisdiction.
  • AB 2160 (Bass) – Students With Autism: Teacher Credentialing:  Would extends by two years the inoperative and repeal dates of existing State law that currently allows a local educational agency or school to assign a teacher that holds certain credentials to provide instruction to students with autism if the teacher consents to the assignment and meets one of two specified criteria.
  • AJR 31 (Buchanan) – Resolution: Special Education Funding

PUBLIC TESTMONY: Yes. People can submit more comments directly to the committee or to the author of the bill. 

CDCAN COMMENT: The foster care program include many children who have special needs and disabilities. Adult education programs also include programs that serve people with developmental disabilities and seniors.
